How It Works

How does TDS deliver
packaging design?

Packaging design at TDS is a rigorous process — brief, concept, refine, and print-ready delivery. Every packaging project is reviewed by the Creative Director before artwork is submitted to print.

01

Packaging Brief

Define the product, format, materials, retail context, audience, and regulatory requirements. The Creative Director reviews the brief before any design begins.

02

Concept Design

Initial packaging concepts are presented with visual mockups — showing the design in realistic context (on-shelf, product photography). Two directions for new ranges; one refined direction for updates.

03

Refinement & Regulatory Content

Client-provided regulatory content (ingredients, nutritional panels, barcodes, legal text) is integrated into the design. Two revision rounds included before artwork is finalised.

04

Print-Ready Delivery

Print-ready artwork delivered to your printer's specifications — correct colour profiles, bleeds, dieline layers, and print finish notes. Source files included.

Why TDS

Why choose TDS for
packaging design?

Brand-System Integration

TDS packaging is designed as an extension of your brand identity — not a standalone project. Colour, typography, and visual language flow directly from your brand guidelines into your packaging.

Retail-Competitive Design

TDS designers understand what shelf competition looks like. Every packaging design is assessed not just for brand fit, but for how it performs alongside competitors in the same retail environment.

Print-Ready Every Time

No back-and-forth with printers over file problems. TDS delivers packaging artwork that is genuinely print-ready — correct colour spaces, bleed, dieline layers, and finish specifications included.

Subscription Efficiency

New SKU? Range extension? Reformulation requiring new label? Submit a brief via Slack — no new project scope, no agency retainer negotiation, no delays. It's already in your subscription.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions
about TDS packaging design

Does TDS handle structural packaging design as well as graphic design?
TDS focuses on the graphic and brand design of packaging — label artwork, print-ready surface design, and visual system application. For structural packaging (custom die-cut shapes, new carton engineering), TDS works with your structural packaging supplier and applies the graphic design to the supplied dieline.
Does TDS manage the print production process for packaging?
Yes. TDS can manage print production for packaging — liaising with printers, providing print-ready files to printer specifications, managing proofing rounds, and advising on print finishes (foiling, embossing, spot UV, matte lamination). Print management is included in Scale and Custom tiers.
Can TDS design packaging for a new product range?
Yes. TDS designs packaging for new product ranges from scratch — developing the packaging visual system, individual SKU designs, and range hierarchy. This typically begins with a packaging brief and brand audit to ensure new packaging aligns with your existing brand identity.
How long does packaging design take with TDS?
A single label or packaging design typically takes 5–8 business days for initial concepts. A full product range packaging system (multiple SKUs with variant hierarchy) is typically a 3–5 week project. Timelines are confirmed at brief stage.
Does TDS design packaging that complies with Australian labelling regulations?
TDS provides design services and can accommodate regulatory requirements provided by the client (ingredient lists, nutritional panels, allergen statements, warning labels, barcodes). For regulatory compliance advice specific to your product category, TDS recommends engaging a specialist regulatory consultant.
